Ode to the Walnut

October 19, 2012

My children came running into our house the other day with a container full of black walnuts from our tree they had picked.

Which got me thinking.

The walnut gets no respect. Like, at all! In all of the hustle and bustle of fall cooking we highlight the apple, the squash, the pumpkin…but not the TRUE star of the show.

The walnut adds an extra oomph of flavor to some of our favorite fall treats and breakfasts. It’s what makes some of the best dishes extraordinary dishes.

So today, I’m highlighting some of my favorite fall treats that include one of my favorite accessory ingredients…the walnut.
