Homemade Cinnamon Applesauce

September 20, 2010

Since I’m busy moving furniture, painting and trying to keep a certain little boy out of oil based paint today, I’m going to post a recipe for homemade cinnamon applesauce. This is a family favorite of ours. My children love the great taste of the cinnamon and sweetness of applesauce mingled with a touch of brown sugar.

With the apples weighing our trees down, everyone in our neighborhood might get some applesauce!

And if you’re looking for other apple recipes, check out some of these good ones on our site:

4 medium cooking apples, cored and quartered

1 cup water

1/2 cup packed brown sugar

1/2-1 tsp cinnamon

1/8 tsp nutmeg

In a large saucepan, heat apples and water over medium heat until mixture begins to boil. Reduce heat to simmer, allow apples to cook an additional five to ten minutes, or until apples become tender. Stir in brown sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Bring mixture to a boil again, remove from heat, then allow to cool until ready to serve.

This mixture can be stored in the fridge for 2-4 days, or you can freeze it for longer if desired.

**Brown sugar Splenda can be substituted for brown sugar if desired.
